Rescue Me ID: 16-01-29-00479Riley (male)

Black Mouth Cur Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Blind

Riley is an adorable 2 years young, neutered male. He is a mix of black mouth (yellow) cur and lab. He is a witty, charming, intelligent little guy, who has so much love, and comfort to give to the right person. He is amazing, as he has accomplished so much with being vision loss, he does see shadows and is aware of thresholds, doorways, and objects. He counts steps from his kennel to the doggie door and through it and has the stairs numbered in his head down to the back yard. He is completely potty trained. He never misses a beat. He is playful, energetic, and he has no limitation as to what he can and is devoted to learn. If it will ... (Read More)please you, he will work hard to achieve every goal set for him. Riley will kennel on command, he will sit when asked to, and he has learned the down command. He is currently working on lying down, and good leash manners. He does need a front clip lead harness as he is a strong muscular boy. He loves all the things in nature, as his ancestry black mouth curs are excellent hunting dogs. He loves to play tug of war, and sit in your lap or beside you in your chair. He does best snuggling in bed at night, he really prefers to be within fingertip reach in case you should need to reach out and pet him for comfort or together in a chair. His focus is companionship through mutual nurturing and emotional support. He would be an excellent emotional support/companion dog. He follows you throughout the house step by step often stepping on the back of fosters heels. He walks beside foster with his nose touching my leg as he wants to be there just at that moment when foster needs him the most. Riley needs to be kenneled when left unsupervised, as he is very devoted to his owner and wishes not be left behind. If he is without the thing he loves the most, 'you.' His owner must understand that Riley needs a structured environment during their absence. He needs to have enrichment activities while his owner is away. Foster normally use old throwaway blankets that he can shred and be busy when I am away. (it's the puppy in him) Foster also provide him with a pressed bone, and various textures of toys, or dog peanut butter/cheese to sample while he is kenneled. Riley should not be kenneled more then 4 hours at a time, due to breed it's just not healthy for him. He needs an owner that is willing to walk him daily, and enjoy his company. Ideally an owner that has stable gait, as Riley is underfoot as he is very bonded and wants to be with you at all times to provide comfort support and warmth in your time of need. Riley is a very loyal, loving dog, who needs a job to perform to make him thrive and he is very proud when he pleases you. He would be most suitable for a low traffic home, as he is an energetic boy that can become over stimulated by constant chaos. His senses are heightened and he is aware of everything that goes on around him. Riley would require a fenced yard due to his vision loss, a dog savvy handler, someone who is able to walk, play with him, car rides, and enjoy his company, someone that is dedicated to Riley's enrichment and quality of life. Riley can provide the right person a higher quality of life through dedication, support, and companionship. Riley's new owner should be willing to continue his in home training, as he loves to learn new and exciting things. He loves to be rewarded with positive reinforcement of praise, petting or treats. Riley's adoption fee is $225.00 through the rescue, which include all his up to date vetting. This fee is placed right into the rescue to help save more lives! (Less)
